Part 1: Software Installation Information
=========================================

To install this calendar, use the Program Manager or File Manager to start
SETUP.EXE (located on Disk 1) as you would any other Windows-based
application. For example, if you are installing from drive A:

- Insert Installation Disk 1 into the A: Drive
- From the Program Manager File menu, choose Run.
- In the Run dialog box, type A:SETUP and choose OK.

  Or

- From the File Manager, double-click the SETUP.EXE file icon
  on Drive A:.

If you downloaded this software, you will need to unzip the files
into a temporary directory before installing the program. For example,
you may want to unzip the file into a directory on your C: drive
called: TEMP

Once the files have been unzipped, you may install directly
from the TEMP directory as follows:

- From the Program Manager File menu, choose Run.
- In the Run dialog box, type C:\TEMP\SETUP.EXE and choose OK.

==================
Part 2: How To Use
==================

Once you have installed this software, it is recommended that you put the
main program "CALENDAR.EXE" into your STARTUP folder so that it comes up
automatically each time you run Windows.

To learn how to put this program into the STARTUP folder, look up keyword,
"startup" in your Windows manual or online help. Look for an entry
stating, "Starting a program each time Windows starts.

The Electronic Desktop Calendar is very easy to use. On the screen, you
will notice a picture on the left. To the upper right side of the screen
is a text box. Clicking on this box allows you to type in an entry for the
date that is currently displayed.

To edit an entry, simply click on the text box when that entry is on the
screen. To delete an entry, highlight the entire entry and press the
BACKSPACE key, located on your keyboard.

Along the bottom of the screen are some buttons. Each button performs the
following functions:

-----
Info.
-----

Pressing this button calls up an "About This Program" box, which contains
information about this program. Depending on whether you are using the
SHAREWARE DEMO or the REGISTERED program, several different buttons will
appear.

INTERNET ACCESS BAR - Just beneath the copyright notice, you will see
a long narrow bar. If you are online and have Internet Explorer
installed, this button will take you to the internet site for the
   creator of this particular calendar.

In the SHAREWARE version of the program, you will see four buttons along
the bottom of the "About this Program" box. These buttons are labeled:

REGISTER NOW - Pressing this button will bring up a registration form
allowing you to register this program.

REGISTER LATER - Pressing this button will get rid of the "About this
Program" box and put you back to the calendar.

HOW TO USE - Pressing this button will call up this readme file.

ABOUT - Pressing this button will bring up information about the model
pictured in the calendar as well as information about DeBoer
   Photography's calendar creation service.

In the REGISTERED version of the program, you will see three buttons along
the bottom of the "About This Program" box. These buttons are labeled:

ABOUT - Pressing this button will bring up information about the model
pictured in the calendar as well as information about DeBoer
   Photography's calendar creation service.

OK - Pressing this button will get rid of the "About this Program" box
and put you back to the calendar.

HOW TO USE - Pressing this button will call up this readme file.

-----
Setup
-----

Pressing this button will bring up a Setup Menu allowing you to customize
this program. From this menu, you may select new colors/textures for the
the calendar, turn on the system clock display, change event text font
and size, and select the printer font to use when printing out events.
You will also be able to set an option to use your own pictures.

------
Search
------

Pressing the SEARCH button allows you to search all entries for a specific
keyword. For example, if you had an appointment on the system with someone
named, "Michelle," you might want to do a keyword search for "mich". All
entries with the letters "mich" will then appear in the text box. Click on
the entry you would like to view and the program will jump to the date for
that particular entry.

If you would like to see every appointment that you have scheduled, simply
press the OKAY button on the search form. All dates with an entry will show
up on the text box. Click on the entry with the date you would like to view
and the calendar will jump to that date.

-----
Print
-----

The PRINT button allows you to print any appointments that are currently
displayed in the text box. If you press the PRINT button right after a
search when there is a listing in the text box, all entries that appear in
the text box will be printed. Otherwise, only the entry for the particular
day you have selected will be printed.

If you are printing right after performing a keyword search, all entries
in which the keyword appears will be highlighted with three asteriks to
the left (***). This should help you easily find the entry that you are
looking for on that particular day.

-----
Today
-----

Pressing this button will jump you to the current date, as set in your
Windows environment. Each time you start up the calendar program, it will
also default to the current date.

----
Save
----

Press this button to save any changes made to the calendar entries.

--------
Minimize
--------

Pressing this button will minimize the program so that you may use other
programs while the calendar runs in the background. You may then press
the ALT-TAB keys to bring the calendar to the foreground if you need to
make an entry or review the calendar. An alternative method to bring
the calendar to the foreground is to press the CALENDAR button on the
Windows '95/'98 TASKBAR.

----
Exit
----

Press this button to end the program and save any changes you have made to
the calendar. You may also press ALT-F4 to exit the calendar.

====================
Part 3: Registration
====================

If you downloaded this program from an online service or the internet,
you probably have the SHAREWARE DEMO of the calendar. The SHAREWARE
DEMO will only allow a limited number of "TO DO" Entries before bringing
up a "Nag" screen each time you make an entry.

To register this software, press the REGISTER NOW button in the HELP
Menu. A Registration Form will appear, allowing you to enter your
Soft-Key Sequence Number. Once you have entered the Soft-Key Sequence
Number, press "OK" to register the product!

To obtain the Soft-Key Sequence Number to register this product, send
a check in U.S. funds for $19.95 to:

			DeBoer Photography
                        c/o Calendar Registration
			P.O. Box 373172
			Satellite Beach, FL 32937

Please make checks payable to: Denoy DeBoer

Be sure to include the name of the program you are registering and the
Serial Number (this can be found on the 'About This Program' screen
that appears when you press the INFO button). If you would like to
receive your Soft-Key via e-mail, be sure to state your e-mail address
with your order. DeBoer Photography will then send you the Soft-Key
number required to register this program.

===============================
Part 4: Using Your Own Pictures
===============================

Using your own pictures with the Electronic Desktop Calendar is very easy.
Simply create 13 .JPG files (one for each of the 12 months and one for the
"cover" on the ABOUT Screen). Name the files as COVER.JPG, 1.JPG, 2.JPG,
3.JPG, etc., through 12.JPG for each of the months.

Put these files into the directory containing the calendar program and
set the "Custom Pictures" option on the Setup Screen. You do not need
to have 13 custom pictures to use the custom pictures option. Months/cover
pictures that are missing will simply default to those included with the
calendar.

Note that some pictures may come out distorted if they do not have a width
to height ratio of 384:534 (768:1068 or some other variation of this ratio).
To ensure that the pictures do not come out distorted, try to use images that
are either 384 pixels wide by 534 pixels tall, or some variation of this
ratio (i.e., 768:1068, etc.). The cover image should have a width to height
ratio of 334:207 or a variation of this ratio (668:414, etc.)

If you do not have access to a scanner and would like DeBoer Photography
to scan your pictures for you, we also offer a scanning service. Simply
send your pictures, along with $1.00 per picture to:

DeBoer Photography
P.O. Box 373172
Satellite Beach FL, 32937

There is a $7.00 shipping/handling charge per order, so if you want us
to scan 13 pictures, you would send us $20.00 (13 pictures at $1.00 each
plus $7 shipping and handling). Payment must be made in U.S. funds
drawn from a U.S. Bank (i.e., check or money order) and made out to:

                             Denoy DeBoer

Remember that the monthly pictures should be VERTICAL in format and the
"cover" picture (the one that appears on the ABOUT screen) should be
HORIZONTAL.

DeBoer Photography will return your pictures as well as diskettes
containing your images. (Please allow four weeks for delivery).

======================
Part 5: Notes and Tips
======================

Remember that an appointment/note entry is not saved until you click
another date or a button. Therefore, it would be a good idea to click
the Save Button to save your entry as soon as you are finished typing.
This way, if there is a power outage or something, your latest entry
will have been saved.

Although this program has been tested fairly extensively, it may be a
good idea to create a new "TODO" file each year. You may want to
rename your old "TODO.LST" file to the year for that file at the
beginning of each year (i.e., at the end of 1998, you may want to
rename your TODO.LST file as 1998.LST). Exit the Calendar Program and
use Windows to rename the file. The next time the Calendar is restarted,
a new "TODO.LST" will be created for you.

This will limit the size of the "TODO" File and avoid potential problems,
such as long waits during a keyword search, and having a "TODO" List
that is too large for the program to handle.

An alternative to starting a new "TODO" file each year is to simply
scroll through the calendar and manually DELETE older entries that are
no longer needed. Do this by highlighting that particular entry and
pressing the BACKSPACE key.

The TODO list is simply a plain ASCII text file listing the date and
entry for that date. If you are handy with NOTEPAD, you may wish to
load in the TODO.LST file using NOTEPAD and manually delete entries that
are no longer needed. However, this option is only recommended for
experienced users.

Another potential "problem" has to do with entering too many characters
without any spaces between the letters. For example, if you decided to
use the minus "-" character to draw a line to seperate several entries,
this could cause some printing problems depending on the font that is
selected. The problem can be corrected by reducing the number of repeated
characters or putting spaces between each character (i.e., use "- -" to
create the line instead of a solid "---").
